7 Reasons To Begin A Running Program

By Judy Mick

There are so many reasons to begin a running program! I love running and I want everyone to be out there on the roads with me! Running is a great and healthy lifestyle – I can’t even remember when I didn’t run.

Here are my top 7 reasons to begin a running program.

1. Weight loss. This is the biggest reason that most people start running. Running is one of the best calorie burners out there.

2. Psychological benefits. There have been studies that show that runners (and ones that do other aerobic activities) are less stressed and in a better mood than non-runners. They seem to handle life better and are less depressed. For me, it’s cheaper than therapy!

Runners also have a more focused mind. I get some of my best ideas on the road. Also, during my runs I have come up with answers to problems that I may be dealing with.

3. Running gives you more energy. I know that this is true with me. Starting my day with my run gives me energy to make it through a busy day.

4. Slows the aging process. Runners are less likely to get (or will delay getting) osteoporosis. Your bones get healthier and stronger by a regular running routine. So, the natural process of bone loss slows down. Just look at all those runners still doing marathons in their 70′s and 80′s!

5. Lungs are healthier. If you are belly breathing (like all good runners should be), the deep breaths are forcing your lungs to use more of their potential. You are using lung tissue that you usual would be be using. And, good news for former smokers, running will also help you recover some of your lung potential.

6. Better sex. Yes, I said it! And, it was even studies by Harvard School of Public Health. Runners have 30% less chance of developing problems in the bedroom. The increased blood flow from regular exercise causes men and women to have a more better love life. Just leaving it at that!

7. Lower cholesterol. Running increases the levels of HDL (the “good” cholesterol) in your body. At the same time, it lowers the LDL (“bad” cholesterol). What this means is a less chance of having a stroke or heart attack.

Running is so great for your mind and body. If you’re already a runner – there’s more reasons to keep on doing it!
