“Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.” ~Phyllis Diller, Phyllis Diller’s Housekeeping Hints, 1966
Phyllis Diller could certainly turn a phrase. However, there is some truth to what she says. Children seem to have a knack for starting the next mess before you finish cleaning up the current mess. But that’s healthy; part of growing up is making a mess that someone else will clean up. Soon enough they will be the ones doing the clean up.
Parents have a responsibility to be certain our children have a safe and healthy environment to grow up in. Along that line of thinking you would not leave something out in the open in your home that could hurt your children…or do you? Do you realize the amount of mold, mildew, bacteria, germs and dust mites that can be found in your home? Rather than meaning you do not clean your home well, this may mean your using the wrong cleaning methods and tools.
When cleaning your home it is important to be certain that anything that can harm your family or make them sick is eliminated. That includes eliminating things like allergens, bacteria, germs, viruses, mold and mildew the best you can while cleaning. It also means not introducing anything while you are cleaning that could hurt them, such as, chemical-based cleaners. Is there a more effective way to clean your home than with chemical-based cleaners while still eliminating the most germs, allergens, viruses, mold and mildew as possible? Most definately, try cleaning with a steam cleaner.
Steam cleaners use only water that is heated to 212 and higher; F creating a steam vapor that can get into more cracks and crevices than chemical-based cleaners and, as a result, clean, sanitize and disinfect more thoroughly than chemical-based cleaners. And steam cleaners do not leave any residue behind like chemical-based cleaners that could irritate your skin and cause allergic reactions. Surfaces cleaned with a steam cleaner usually stay cleaner because steam cleaners do not leave any residue behind.
The heat produced by a steam cleaner will kill most germs and viruses commonly found in the home as well as killing allergens like dust mites. Does it seem like you and your family don’t have any problems with allergy during the day, however, once you get into bed at night you begin to suffer from a stuffy nose, sneezing or red and watery eyes. That may result from the fact that mattresses can have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million dust mites living in them. Pillows also have a very large number of dust mites. Cleaning your mattresses and even pillows using a steam cleaner can help relieve your allergy symptoms by reducing the amount of dust mites in them.
So make sure you keep your home safe and clean for your kids. If you make sure they are able to grow and play in a safe and healthy environment, they will most likely do the same for their kids when they have children.
