When you buy Hankook tires, you can expect to enjoy riding on them for thousands of miles, but you can never expect when you might have to deal with a tire accident. Knowing how to change a tire is a crucial part of driver’s education that everyone should undergo prior to heading out on the open road for the first time. Yet, many people miss this critical lesson, only to later discover themselves stranded on the side of the road.

Before you take a vehicle out on the road, you have to check to make sure that there is a jack, lug wrench, and spare tire in the trunk or wherever they are stored. Having those things onboard will ensure that you are not left helpless beside the road in the event that you do experience a blow out.

It is critical that you jack your vehicle up on level ground, so if you have a flat, you need to park your car in the flattest area you can access. Turn on your warning signal so that passersby will notice you are stopped and for your own safety, set your emergency brake. You can be double sure that your car won’t roll by chocking your wheels with a big rock or other item.

Now put the jack under the frame close to the tire that you are going to be changing. For people that are unsure of where they should set the jack, there are special notches on many modern vehicles that indicate where the head of the jack should push against the frame. The maintenance manual in your glove compartment should also include some sort of guide for placing the jack on your particular vehicle.

Get your jack in place and begin jacking it up until it provides a nominal amount of support to the vehicle but leaves the tire on the ground. With your wrench in hand, you may now start taking off the nuts holding the tire in place. Removing lug nuts can take a bit of effort, make sure that you are turning the wrench in the right direction and provide ample force to break the resistance. With the nuts all out of the way, you may now jack the vehicle up until the tire is off the ground and can be taken off of the vehicle.

When you replace your Hankook tires, you will need to follow the same steps you did to remove them, only backwards. Align your spare with the lug studs and fit it onto the wheel hub, replacing and tightening the lug nuts accordingly. With your spare in place you’re finally good to go, but don’t wait too long to visit your local tire shop for a permanent replacement.
