How To Keep Your Clients Interested

So, the marketing plan obviously worked. Dozens of clients are interested in your product. They have decided to invest their hard-earned money in what you have to offer. Sales of your business is good, so how do you get them to come back for a repeat purchase? How do you keep them interested? Or better – how do you convince your clients to refer you to some of their other contacts?

Here are a few tips, to keep them coming back for more…

First, ensure that your products are worth going back for. If you sell inexpensive items that are in need of replacement in a week’s time, then how will you expect customers to come back? They would probably even “spread the word” and tell their friends to avoid purchasing from you at all costs! Oh my. It took so much planning from your end to get your business on track – you certainly don’t need one or two bad maiden sales to ruin your chances of succeeding. Tip: buyers would rather pay for quality than quantity. So back up your glorious marketing claims by making sure that your products are the best of quality.

Next, try to invest time and effort in personalizing your service. Have you ever encountered buying from a store because of this over-zealous counter girl who made fabulous claims about a product – only to discover that the product no longer works after just 2 days? Then, when you bring the item back to the formerly friendly counter girl, she suddenly gives you the cold shoulder? Now isn’t that enough to turn you off?

The trick is to listen to the customer and make them feel that they are important. Make them feel that their patronage is so highly-prized by your business – that you cannot afford to lose him/her as a client. Well, but this does not mean that you should be a pushover. It isn’t really correct that the customer is always right, but even if they are wrong, explain this to them in the nicest way possible. Remember, customer satisfaction is the best way to keep them loyal. When a customer feels appreciated, they will reciprocate with loyalty.

Of course, the best offshoot of a great relationship with your loyal customer is the possibility of being referred to their friends / colleagues / associates which may be your potential clients. Never underestimate the power of a positive feedback – for it has the power to mushroom into several new feedbacks from new patrons.

Next, offer incentives by way of discounts, freebies or anything that will keep you over and above the competition. Let’s face it – discounts are great; free items are better. You can also offer to “reward” customers for every repeat purchase.

If you and your competition sell identical items, at identical prices, with little or no extra incentive to the customer, chances are, he will purchase from a seller which is more convenient – perhaps the one which is located just 10 steps away from his residence, or the one with the “prettier” sales person. If you, however, price your items even just a dollar or two lower, or if you give an extra item when the customer buys 2 or more items from you, then he will more likely patronize your business – not your competition. Customers, after all, want more for their money. This marketing gimmick is especially effective for new businesses that are just starting up, or those trying to enhance and revitalize their existing & loyal client base.

Lastly, work on product improvement. Just because your products are selling well, it does not mean that you should be lazy and complacent. Research, and try to find ways to make your products more current and interesting. Don’t insist on sticking to your old ways – because all new things eventually grow old.

In the dog-eat-dog world of business, it would be wise to always be a step ahead of everyone else. Dipping your toes into the water and taking that first swim is easy – but staying in the water takes real determination and interest – exactly true for any type of business.
