There was fantastic news for pump manufacturers after research revealed that the market was set for a boost this year.

A study into the British pump market by MTW Research found that there were many reasons for those in the sector to be optimistic as the industry is currently faring well in the current turbulent economic climate.

The sector is expected to grow at an above-inflation rate over the coming and following year thanks to its resilience against factors that are damaging other product and service industries.

Changing market conditions that are benefiting the sector include a significant investment in pumping products which has boosted the industry and led to increased demand from commercial and domestic customers.

This increased demand has meant that the vast majority of pump manufacturing companies experienced growth over the past year which has greatly strengthened the industry in recent times.

MTW reported that manufacturers had a strong credit rating which could facilitate higher borrowing but warned against this because the levels were already higher than the preferred rate.

The report has even suggested that commercial know-how demonstrated by pumping manufacturers has helped the industry cope with market conditions and quickly identify new potential opportunities.

Technological advancements to pumping equipment have also made the products more effective and reliable leading to wider public awareness and greater demand of the appliances.

The most beneficial development in pumping products has been the improvement in variable-speed drive technology which has helped equipment last longer by better controlling the amount of pressure flowing within the appliances.

Pumps which are fitted with variable speed devices are also much more likely to use less electricity and water which makes them cheaper to run and more attractive to the consumer.

MTW reported that a number of political environmental, technological and economic factors were likely to increase the sales of pumps by approximately ten per cent over the next five years.
